Mission: Improve the quality of life of persons with dementia in Michigan by:
  • Sharing information and enhancing coordination of efforts
  • Providing recommendations, as appropriate, to the Michigan Department of Community Health
  • Identifying priority needs of persons with dementia and caregivers, and responding strategically

Meeting Dates

All meetings are from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and take place at: Livingston County Educational Service Agency, 1425 West Grand River Avenue, Howell, MI 48843.

2009-2011 Priority Goals

1. Increase support for family members who provide care for persons with dementia at home.
2. Promote best practices in dementia detection, assessment, and care management in primary care.
3. Advocate for dementia-friendly policies and promote the highest quality dementia care standards in Michigan long-term care systems reform efforts.
4. Increase early intervention and support for persons with dementia and their caregivers by promoting public awareness of the caregiver role and the early warning signs of dementia.

(November 2006) Dementia Competencies for Michigan Direct Care Workers
The Michigan Dementia Plan has established increasing the dementia competency of health professionals as a priority. The Dementia Competencies Work Group developed and released Knowledge and Skills Needed for Dementia Care: A Guide for Direct Care Workers.

(January 2006) Michigan Dementia Coalition Launches 2006 Dementia Awareness Campaign
The Michigan Dementia Coalition launched a statewide dementia awareness campaign at press conferences on January 10 in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Marquette.

(May 2005) Governor's Long-Term Care Task Force Celebrates Signing Of Executive Order 2005-14
The Governor's Long Term Care Task Force provides recommendations that, if promptly implemented, will help Michigan's long-term care system to become increasingly robust and responsive to the needs of our citizens. (April 2005) Alzheimer's Research Volunteers Needed
